Why are people calling me from other places?

I have an iPhone 4 and my phone service is virgin mobile. People from other countries, states, etc have been randomly calling me and I just don't answer the phone call because I don't know those people, like last time someone called me and I didn't respond back a course, two or 3 minutes have passed and the person that called me texted me saying this "call me, it's important". Why are strangers calling me? How did they get my phone number? Maybe I should either change my phone number or get another phone. I want to know why.

This happens because cell numbers are recycled. Once one is cancelled, the number is recycled to someone else. The callers may not know that the previous person who had that number no longer has it. Just get a call blocker app? Problem solved. Your phone number was probly given to 4chan by a friend of yours lol They are either scammers or someone else had your telephone number in the past and old friends of that person are calling. Either way, don't bother to answer. If it's really bad, consider changing telephone numbers.
