Why are texts still coming to my iPhone, but not my Android?

I recently switched from an iPhone to an Android, and have several friends with iPhones who no longer seem to be able to send texts to me or receive them from me. My iPhone is still in my possession, but is off most of the time -- I only turn it on every now and again to access contact info and such that I still haven't switched over to the Android. It has no service other than Wi-Fi.

I turned it on today and had 32 text messages -- all replies to texts that I had sent from my Android. Of these texts, there were only five that actually did show up on my Android (all from my husband, who has an iPhone and has never had any issues contacting my Android).

Why are the texts still coming to my iPhone when it has no signal? Is it because of the phone being connected to Wi-Fi even though it stays powered off 99 percent of the time? How can I fix this?

Also, there doesn't seem to be a problem with calling iPhones from my Android, but some of the iPhone users who are unable to send me texts are also unable to call my Android.

How can I fix these issues?

Your friends need to change your number to standard text messaging, not iMessage.

  • Why isn't my android receiving texts from iphone? My husband got an iphone three months ago. Around that time I got an android galaxy III. A about 2-3 weeks ago I stopped receiving his texts. He sees mine but I don't get his. He is the only person whose texts I'm not receiving and I'm the only person who can't see his texts. We tried turning off the imessage but it didn't work.
  • Why is my temporary number still coming up to iPhone users? I got a new iPhone, I had a temporary number for a few days, then my regular number was back in use yesterday. If I call my friends that have iPhones my regular number comes up yet if I text them its my temporary number. Yet this doesn't happen to contacts with other phones.
  • Why is my Iphone 4 not showing the contact names on my in-coming texts? I'm having this issue with my Iphone 4 after updating. Suddenly my text messages are not displaying the contact name, but rather just the phone number of the person sending the text. It always displayed the senders name prior to updating, and now I can;t get it to return doing so. I've tried rebooting my phone and tried to look up some info on the net, but nothing seems to work to get it back. Has anyone experienced anything similar and if so, how did you fix the issue.
  • Why does my iPhone sometimes send texts to other iPhones as iMessages then regular texts to iPhones? Like when I send a text to my friend that has an iphone, it usually sends as an iMessage then it will randomly send as just a regular text and it will be green and not blue.
