Why can't I send or receive texts when I'm connected to the internet?
I just got the G2 from Verizon and every time I hook up to the internet I can't send texts nor receive them. It does the same to my friends iPhone 5. Any ideas on what the problem is?
Sure… Texting - also known as SMS or Short Message Service - has to go over the cell phone provider's network (in this case Verizon), not the internet.
Process:
You type the text on the device, press send.
The message is stored in the G2, and when the network is available, the message is transmitted to the cell service provider's radio/antenna, to a bas station, to a contoller to a "message center" server where it is stored and looks up the destination to send the message (in this case the iPhone). This is "SMS store and forward".
There's no internet involvement or connection.
There's no "problem" so there's nothing to fix.
The resolution is to connect to the cell phone provider's cell network - not Wi-Fi - to use SMS.
If you don't want to do this, there are "over the top" services available like Skype that have a texting feature that allow connectivity over the cell phone provider's network or Wi-Fi… But this is not "SMS"…

Hi, The Problem is - i set up a wireless network today for my Iphone 5 and my blackberry, from my main desktop at home, and all went well and Both are connected to it, as well as my laptop. But now whenever i try using the internet on these devices ( iphone etc ) it does not work, although the main desktops internet is working… Can anyone help me? I'm using WINDOWS 7.

- Why doesn't my iPhone send or receive calls or texts? I purchased an iPhone second hand on t-mobile, 3G works fine but can't receive any calls or texts or send them. Thought the IMEI might have been blocked. Any ideas?
