Why do people spend so much money?
It's disgusting how many people spend money that can't afford it. Why do people spend money on cellphones, cable, Internet, expensive cars, etc that can't afford to pay for healthcare, loans, etc? It really confuses me. Some of the people who can't pay have nicer phones, cars, and clothes than I.
It's not everyone, but the patients I see with iPhones as they are filling out our hospital's program forms to help write off the bills is sickening. I saw the same thing with people who had food stamps when I worked in a grocery store.
Link it to intelligence and it will answer your question.
Go to a store like Costco. Where the average yearly income may be 100K a year.
You will see people driving:
Toyota Yaris, Honda Fits, Nisan Versas.
You know I'm right.
You will see them with flip phones.

Honestly, there are studies out there that link this nonsense bad personal finance with lower intelligence.
I have a $10 a month phone. I have a nice retirement account.

- Why don't we spend more money on NASA? I know that we have a debt problem here in America but to me, NASA is worth it. In fact, if I remember correctly, the budget for NASA is below 20 Billion, yet we give foreign countries aid that is about 50 billion. Why don't we expand the program and also bring back the shuttle program? For those who say that NASA isn't important, where do you think the influence for our iphones came from?
- Why do people spend $600 on the iPhone? What I don't understand is why people spend $600+ on the NEWEST iPhone that maybe has 2-3 SMALL changes. Why don't they just WAIT until they can upgrade for free? Do people seriously waste that much money?
