Why does my iPhone charger only work in certain outlets?

My charger for my iPhone 4S only works in certain outlets. It used to work in all in fact this morning it worked and then I went to go charge it a few hours later in the same outlet and it didn't work.

Check to make sure that the outlet in question, is not operated by a wall switch.

Barring that, make sure that the orientation of the plug is not affecting it making contact in the outlet when plugged in.

Some older wall outlets can be loose for newer AC plugs, or just plain loose period and don't make good contact when things are plugged into them. Try gently spreading the plugs prongs outward, to allow for a tighter fit in the outlet. If all else fails, change the wall outlet to a newer outlet
