Why does my new iPhone 5c shows my old number under messages option?

I'm trying to activate my iMessage, but I want to send & receive as my current number. However, my new, current number is not appearing. It shows my old number. I'm assuming its because I backed up my phone on my itunes to get my contacts back, But how can I fix this so it could show my current number instead of my old number that I'm not using anymore.

Go to Settings -> Phone and make sure My Number shows your current number.

Then

Go to Settings -> Messages -> Send & Receive

Log off from your Apple ID from there… And login again. It should pickup your new number from there.

Hope this helps.

  • Why does iPhone not have the option to require a password to turn the phone off? When someone steals your iPhone, the first thing they do is turn it off, not allowing you to use the GPS function to search for the phone. This means you have 0 time to get a rough idea of where your phone is, as this may still be very useful in tracking your phone. Is it because: 1. They not thought of the idea 2. Apple wants stolen phones in order to increase sales 3. It's a stupid and pointless idea to begin with
  • Why are contacts showing up twice under messages on my iPhone? This morning when my boyfriend sent me a text it showed up under a second listing of his name instead of the one already in my messages. They are listed exactly the same, but one only contains messages from this morning. Why is it doing this/how do I fix it? I have an iPhone 4 running iOS6 that hasn't been updated since that came out in the fall. My email contacts aren't synced to my phone, so that can't be the cause.
  • Switching number from Verizon to Straighttalk AT&T. How to keep my old number? Right now, I have a Verizon noncontract phone. I'm buying an iPhone 4 from a friend which is on the Straighttalk AT&T micro sim plan. I'm moving to the Straighttalk AT&T plan and need to know how to get my number changed over and where to get a new micro SIM card from.
  • New number, do I loose old messages? I'm going to be moving soon, and getting a new cell phone number. Does me getting a new number make me loose all of my old messages? If so, how can I get them or sync them onto my computer while I still have my iPhone now?
