Why doesn't my iPhone work with my Alpine CDE-110?

I just bought an Alpine CDE-110 and when I plug my phone into it via USB it says "USB ERR 1" which means that it isn't compatible or the cord is messed up. My cord is brand new so that can't be the case, and if it means anything it's an iPhone 4 that I'm using. Is there anything I can do to make it work? What exactly IS compatible with this particular head unit. I haven't tried using my auxiliary plug because I don;t have a cord for it so I don't know if that works or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Added (1). I also used an older iPod and it didn't read it. My iPhone works fine, my girlfriend has a USB compatible head unit and we both use our iPhones on them all the time.

  • Will an iPhone 5 with iOS 7 work on an Alpine iDA-X305S head unit? I own an Alpine iDA-X305S head unit which is iPod/iPhone compatible, it allows me to control the music (and Pandora internet radio) from the unit. I'm looking forward to upgrade my iPhone with iOS7, but I would like to know if there's some kind of compatibility issue with the head unit and this new OS. Since the unit doesn't have a CD playback, losing compatibility with the head unit would practically leave me with FM and USB flash drive capabilities in my car.
  • Will a 110-220v iphone charger work in a 230v socket? I'm wondering if i should give it a try, or if it could potentially cause damage. If it did cause damage, would it be to my iphone, the power supply, or both?
  • Why doesn't siri on iphone 4 work properly? I downloaded Siri using cydia. She works, and do simple tasks like set an alarm, set a timer, or send a text, But when i ask her to search for places near me her answer is always sorry i can't find games for such and such. Her answers are almost always irrelevant to my question. There was an option to buy Siri for 99 cents that uses google, and seems more legit than the free downloaded. Can anyone help answer my question as to why Siri is acting "stupid"?
