Will a 110-220v iphone charger work in a 230v socket?
I'm wondering if i should give it a try, or if it could potentially cause damage. If it did cause damage, would it be to my iphone, the power supply, or both?
If the input voltage written on the charger is 220 volts then you can safely connect it to 230 v socket
Yes it will. 220 V is not a big difference from 230 V
Power is V^2 / r so power increases as square of the voltage.
(230/220)^2 = 1.1 so you are 10% over the rating.
Having said that, these chargers are usually made to work on pretty much any normal supply, and have a good margin of tolerance. (see below)
Also they are designed to fail safe (doesn't mean they always do!) so the worst case is that the charger will just stop charging.
Since 1960, the supply voltage in UK domestic premises has been 240 V AC (RMS) at 50 Hz. In 1988, a Europe-wide agreement was reached to unify the various national voltages, which ranged at the time from 220 V to 240 V, to a common European standard of 230V (CENELEC Harmonization Document HD 472 S1:1988).
The standard nominal supply voltage in domestic single-phase 50 Hz installations in the UK is still 240V AC (RMS), but since 1 January 1995 (Electricity Supply Regulations, SI 1994, No. 3021) this has an asymmetric voltage tolerance of 230 V+10%−6% (253-216.2 V), which covers the same voltage range as continental 220 V supplies to the new unified 230 V standard.
- Why are Iphone chargers designed so the plug is difficult to pull out of socket? It pisses me off! Hairdryer plugs, hair straightener plugs are fine, i can get a good grip and pull them out easily but Ipod/Iphone plugs are so stupid! When i take my charger out i break a nail trying to pull the damn thing out!
- Using a 100-240v Iphone Charger at 220v? This may be a daft question BUT Will I be ok to use my UK Iphone charger in Greece (where the voltage is 220v) without a converter/transformer Obviously i will need an adapter I just wanna make sure my phone won't break!
- Problems with iphone 5s headphones socket? I tried many apple headphones but it seems like the problem is in my phone not lthe headphones so whenever i plug in the headphone it works just fine with the volume isn't up but when i try and raise it a bit it only works in one earbud and with really noisy voice so is there a way to fix this myself?
- My iPhone 4 earphone socket isn't working? The earphones are walking perfectly fine. I know this because they are normal on other devices. The socket hasn't got dust in it.
