Why has my iPhone eaten up All my data?

I have unlimited data with 27.5 gigs of storage and only around 7 gigs of pics, apps, etc but it says my storage is almost full! And when I delete stuff it just eats the data I freed up! Without me doing anything either it does it on its own. Please give me some sort of idea as to what's going on. Going to the AT&T store is the last thing I want to do.

So look and see where its all being used.

When you delete stuff, isn't it copying it to your 'cloud storage', then deleting it off your 'phone?

The unlimited data doesn't refer to 'storage'.it's what you use in real time.

"it says my storage is almost full"

I see these questions posted all the time. People would really make things easier for themselves if they read answers to past questions before adding their question to the pile. Even if you didn't find your answer, you'd at least see what info should be in your question.

One of the most important details is also one of the least included details - what iTunes says your memory is being used for. ITunes gets a lot of complaining from people who don't bother to learn how helpful it can be. If you look at that memory bar it will tell you how much is being used for music, video, apps, etc.

That detail matters.

"when I delete stuff it just eats the data I freed up! "

Do you update your iPhone by syncing it? The reason I ask is because 1) most people who post questions here do that (and unsurprisingly syncing is the cause of a lot of those problems) and 2) when your iPod is NOT set for manual management of music and video, iTunes may reserve as much space on your iPod as is needed to store in it everything in your iTunes. This has been a feature of iPods for years. My son had that problem with his iPod Touch a couple of years back - enabling manual management freed up GB's of space.

Is "other" taking up more than 1 GB of space? If so deleting "stuff" (whatever that is) won't help. Try clearing the safari cookies and history (in settings) and then doing a full shut down and restard.

If none of that helps, repost this question including those details.

Also, although they are conceptually related, the iPhone isn't eating data. "Data" in terms of phones typically refers to data downloaded between the phone and network (3G, LTE or Wi-Fi); your question is more accurately "I don't know why I'm running out of memory on an iPhone"

  • Why is my Iphone not holding a charge after it has been on the charger all day? It tays on while it is on the charger but after disconnection it turns off. I did drop it in water months ago so I know this contributed but is it able to continue to hold a charge ever.
  • Why has my iPhone been using more data than usual? I have a 2GB data plan that i have never overaged on. I moved to a different state for college, and after using my phone for a couple weeks here, i'm already nearing 4GB of data. I'm not using it any differently, just how i did at home. I used 1 GB of data in a period of 7 hours. Could someone please explain how this is possible? I have spoken to Verizon and Apple, who both were of no assistance. I have fetch completely off, and location services off as well.
  • Why does my iphone use data over night when cellular data is turned off? Every night I turn off cellular data and leave the iPhone on and one day I wake up and check my data manager and see i have already used 25 MB please help!
  • Why does my iPhone 4 keep erasing all data? Why does my iphone 4 erase all data when the battery dies? So it erases all data, and has the same icon when you first buy it and need to sync it to iTunes (has the iTunes. Logo and the sync cable going up toward the iTunes logo. Just like when you first buy it and turn it on). Best answer 10 points!
