Why should I do about my eyes?

I've never had any eye problems before, until yesterday. I'm only 17, and I went yesterday to get a physical for a sport I play. Everything was fine until I took the eye exam. The fourth and fifth rows were both where it started to get blurry, and I ended up failing the test apparently at first. She made me retake it, and said she would pass me if I went to see an actual eye doctor. I'm not freaked out over this is just confusing. I've always been told I have 20/20, and I repeat never have any trouble seeing things or reading long distance. My mom said she didn't start wearing glasses til she was my age. That would calm me, but she now has very bad cataracts in both eyes. I don't think she is taking me seriously about setting up an appointment as soon as she can. I'm honestly not quite sure what I'm asking. I'm just a little confused considering this is the first time I've ever had issues with my vision. I mean I can read perfectly fine, and have not had trouble seeing things far away or up close. I think it might be how often I never wear sunglasses and how often I look at my iPhone. I stare at it many hours each day, and even stay up late late at night in the dark staring at it close to my face. So maybe over time I have developed Mysopia, or strained vision maybe? If it helps my Dad has always had great Vision, and still didn't start wearing reading glass until recently at age 45. All 4 of my grandparents wear glasses as well, but they are well over the age of 70.

You must still be in school, which is where most people notice vision problems first because the board isn't clear up front. If you still see the board well, then don't worry about it. If you have to get closer to the board to be able to see it, then you know you are becoming nearsighted.

The screening test done by the GP isn't necessarily correct. The lighting may have been wrong, the distance from the chart may have been incorrect. They often come up with false results.

If you start noticing you do have problems seeing distance then bug your Mom to get an eye exam for you, which should be done every 2 years or so anyway. It's really no big deal until you notice you are having problems compared to others in the class.

  • Why do my eyes hurt more recently? I went to the doctor about 2 weeks ago and he said my eyes are fine, nothing is wrong. I've had headaches for a while but recently they've been dying down, but my eyes have hurt more now. Is it from too much TV and looking at a small iPhone screen? I'm seeing an optometrist later this week to see if I need glasses, because I went 3 weeks ago and the eye doctor said it would help a bit but I denied. Opinions?
  • What's better resolution? My Iphone 5 camera or my eyes So basically, i took some photos with my iphone 5 the other day and i happened to notice that it was such clear resolution, it actually seemed better than my eyesight! Could it be that apple have actually developed a camera that is betetr than the human eye!
  • My eyes hurt, especially whe looking at a screen, why? So recently my eyes started hurting, especially in the back when I look at my iphone screen or a screen in general, I haven't been having lots of screen time but I would watch about an hour to two hours of netflix on my phone when I go to bed, and my eyes are a bit more sensitive to light, are they just irritated or is there some bigger problem?
  • My Eyes Gets Tired Whenever I Use iPhone I don't know why but recently when I use iPhone, my eyes become really tired. It wasn't like this before. Even when I watch tv. It's not like I'm using iPhone for a long time since this started happening. What should I do?
