Why was the iPhone 5 discontinued?

The 5s came out. When apple comes out with a newer model of a product, in this case the iphone, they stop making the older one and produce the newest one

Because it was the same price as 5S, and 5S is FAR better. No reason to have 5.

Because the 5C and 5S were released. Once the iPhone 6 comes out, the iPhone 5C and 5S will be discontinued.

In 2011 came the iPhone 4S, 2012 was the iPhone 5, and 2013 was iPhone 5S. Each phone was better. Also in 2013, came the iPhone 5C, which replaced the iPhone 5 in the same price category since the two phones are almost the same. Normally, the iPhone 5 would drop to $99, but Apple decided there was no reason to have two identical phones at the same price on the market.

The iPhone 5c Is Largely Mechanically Identical To The iPhone 5 In Terms Of Parts If You Take It Apart. The Plastic Outer Case Is Cheaper For Apple To Make- And Can Drive Down Costs While Offering A New Product To Capture Market Interest. Overall, It Allows For Apple To Have A Distinguished Product Line Aesthetically, One That Highlights The Flagship 5s In Both Form And Function To Be Different Than The Next Option (iPhone 5c)

  • Will the iphone 4 be discontinued soon? I'm willing to purchase an iphone 4, but I've called many shops and they said that they've stopped selling the iphone 4 and only had the iphone 4s and iphone 5 in store. I'm not so keen on buying the iphone 4 if its going to be discontinued in a couple of months. Is it about time that shops stopped selling the iphone 4, as it came out in 2010, and there are 2 newer phones after this?
  • Will the discontinued iphone 5 be able to update ios versions? I have an iphone 5 and i'm about to upgrade depending on the answer to this question. I know that apple has discontinued the iphone 5, but does ghat mean i won't be able to upgrade to ios 7.1 or ios 8 when they come out? And if i upgrade to the 5c will that be able to ios 8?
  • Will discontinued apps be avaliable on my iPhone after a software update? Hi, I'm looking to update my iPhone 4 with iOS 6.0 to iOS 7.1. I have a few apps installed from the apps store that are no longer avaliable to buy, such as the original Flappy Bird. I'm concerned that these apps will not be avaliable after I update. I plan on backing up my phone first, but will the backup save these apps from being gone forever? Is there a way to prevent these apps from being deleted other than backing up my phone? Or will these apps simply be no longer avaliable?
  • Why was the iPhone 5 discontinued? I was going to go get one as an upgrade from my iPhone 4S but when I went there the only phones on display were the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s. I asked one of the workers & she told me that there are none in stock. I then asked her when they would be back in stock and she replied "Probably never because the iPhone 5 was discontinued by Apple." When I asked her why she said that she doesn't know. Why did they discontinue a great phone?
