Will the discontinued iphone 5 be able to update ios versions?

I have an iphone 5 and i'm about to upgrade depending on the answer to this question. I know that apple has discontinued the iphone 5, but does ghat mean i won't be able to upgrade to ios 7.1 or ios 8 when they come out? And if i upgrade to the 5c will that be able to ios 8?

Yes the iphone 5 will be able to be updated

It will update to a certain point only. Eventually its hardware won't be able to handle all of the new features and then later on updates will stop for that model.

The iPhone 5 will get iOS 7.1 & 8 & possibly 9 as well. Just cause its discontinued doesn't mean they cut support for it.

For example, the original iPhone debuted in 2007 with iOS 1.0 & was discontinued in 2008 about the time when iOS 2.0 debuted on the iPhone 3G, but it got updates up until iOS 3.1.3 just before the iPhone 4 debuted in 2010.

Does the se still get updates?

  • Will the iphone 4 be discontinued soon? I'm willing to purchase an iphone 4, but I've called many shops and they said that they've stopped selling the iphone 4 and only had the iphone 4s and iphone 5 in store. I'm not so keen on buying the iphone 4 if its going to be discontinued in a couple of months. Is it about time that shops stopped selling the iphone 4, as it came out in 2010, and there are 2 newer phones after this?
