Create a backup with iTunes and then after you install ios7 it will ask if you want to setup as a new phone or to restore from backup
I updated and lost absolutely nothing! IOS 7 is pretty cool!
On iphone 4s i didn't lose a thing. The only bad thing was it brought back my music i deleted before the update. I doubt you would lose anything.
You had better to made a backup if you want to update to iOS 7

But luckily, I got it back by using a tool called Tenorshare iPhone Data Recovery
Be careful, I tried to backup my iphone 4 on Itunes and it ended up deleting everything, do not use Itunes to backup your pictures, first use your phone as a hard drive, copy your pictures, then backup your contacts on verizon backup app or At&T also has one i believe, then go to itunes, I lost 1 year worth of Videos and pictures. Don't believe any post that tells you to use Itunes, it's the biggest scam.
