Will I lose my number if I switch from Android to an iPhone?

For some reason I can't find a straight answer to this question online.
Anyone who has made the switch from Android to an iPhone, did you lose your phone number?
I think this happened to my mother-in-law.

My husband wants to switch our plan and turn in our Androids for iPhones, but I don't want to do that if that means I lose my number. I have had my number for 8 years.

Your number is portable to any phone or service provider

No, you can keep your number.

In many cases no

If you are using the same service whether it's on a contract or non contract you can. If you are going to switch to another service then you also can.

Not necessarily: https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/porting-keeping-your-phone-number-when-you-change-providers

Thank you all!

  • Switch chomp sms from android to iphone? I have an android as of now, but I'm getting the iphone tomorrow. I use Chomp SMS and I would like all my messages to transfer over to the iphone Chomp SMS, if this is possible? Can anyone let me know how to do this if it can be done?
  • Should I switch from iPhone to Android? I'm not bored with iOS, I just want to do more things that a PC can do with my phone. I know that Android allows you to do many things and all that. But it's just that I don't know if I can leave iTunes and the App Store. I own many apps like GarageBand and iMovie, and many many other apps that Android doesn't offer. Is it worth it to leave a good ecosystem to be able to do more stuff with your phone? Is google play enough?
