Will installing Linux on my chromebook cause any problems?
I have an Acer c710 chromebook that I got for christmas last year and I'd like to install linux finally. I've been putting it off for a very long time because I hat to send my computer in to Acer itself earlier this year because for the first 3 months with my computer it only worked like 10-40% of the time and the other times it would have the "chrome OS is missing or damaged." Eventually it got so bad that my computer was completely useless so I sent it in to get a replacement OS thing [sorry I'm no good with computers, that's my dad's thing.]
Anyway I have a bunch of stuff I'd like to be able to do [such as use decent editing software] that I know I'd be able to do if I installed linux. I've researched it for a while and know exactly what needs to be done but what I haven't been able to find is if there's any possibility of damaging the OS? I know there's that possibility for jailbreaking phones which is why I refuse to jailbreak my iphone when I had no problem doing so with my ipod. So I'm wondering if there's similar "bricking" possibilities [or anything damaging for that matter] for this situation? Because I Really don't want to have to send my computer in for repair again.
It's already running Linux, but no it won't hurt it. And what OS would you damage? You'd be installing a new one! Not to be rude, but between what you've said, and your misuse of terminolgy I can assure you that YOU should not attempt to install a different OS into your Chromebook, let somebody do it that know what their doing.
Kinda funny, you refuse to do something as simply as jailbreaking an iPhone, which is the ONLY way to make an iPhone even remotely usable, yet want to force an OS that doesn't belong into a laptop, seems hypocritical. Either way, leave it alone or let somebody with more experience do it.
There's always that chance even when professionals are doing it.
but if you will not risk it, and you will be afraid what if i brake it you will never learn. And you will never know what it feels when you accomplished something.
- What is the xxd package in Linux? Also, how do I obtain it using apt-get? I'm trying to ssh into my iPhone to modify a specific hex portion of that game. Basically, make "money" cost nearly nothing. What's the package?
- Problems installing firmware? I have an iPhone 4 running 4.0. I want to upgrade it to 5.1.1. But I keep getting error code 1601. I've used iREB already and still no luck. Any other suggestions on installing this firmware.
- Installing Windows 8 Problems? I downloaded Windows 8 on Wednesday at my office. I was only using my iPhones hotspot and it was taking for ever to download so I cancelled it. I tried to download it on my broadband and it comes up with an unknown error. The image can be found here: http://postimage.org/image/m2icrrhc9/ I have unlimited Internet and the file hasn't actually downloaded yet.
