Will mini microphone for an iphone work with an aux extension?

I have recently bought a mini microphone from my iphone. The mic obviously goes in as through the headphone jack.
will a female and male extension aux cord work if i connect it to the mic?
i want to place the mic on a pole and extend it as if i were to do a movie. But will an aux cord work with it?
