How to make sure an IPhone I bought online is good

I just recently bought an IPhone 4 for sprint through someone on Craigslist. It was too late at the time to go to a sprint store to check it. I already called and they told me the phone has not been reported lost or stolen. I guess what I'm trying to ask is would I have any other problems? Such as SIM cards or activation?

There's no way you would know that what you got is legit or good. Just hope you have a good return option.

A sprint phone doesn't have a sim card since it's CMDA network and not a GSM.you'll most likely have to have the phone added to your service to really check it out thoroughly. You can however, connect to a Wi-Fi network and check out the internet functions of the phone without service… I buy a lot of things online and they are mostly good.

This is what happens when i plug my phone into the computer and open itunes… I get a small pop up box that is labled iphone software update… And inside the box it says contacting iphone software update server; and there's a bar scrolling… Like something is trying to load. Is my phone udpating. My actual phone device says nothing. How do i know if it's working?
