Can I put an unactivated sim card in my iPhone 5s?

I have this refurbished iPhone 5s and I need a sim card to get past the first process when you turn it on. Does the sim card have to be activated? I just want to use it like an iPod but I have an unactivated metro sim card. Can I put that in there to get past the home screen and then take it out?

As long as the SIM card isn't physically damaged, you should be fine.

I don't know if a Metro SIM will work, you can try it, but if the phone is locked to a carrier, you'll need to use a SIM card that's from the same carrier that the phone is locked to. In other words, if the phone is locked to AT&T, you'll need an AT&T SIM Card.

If the iPhone is unlocked, you just put in any valid SIM card. I would call the cell store I have used un-activated sim cards to use android phones, so I guess you could do the same with iPhones. On my older androids you just need to leave the sim in, it won't work since it is not activated. Yes I think if it's unlocked it will say no service and if it is not unlocked it will say invalid sim. Do install Leo Privacy Guard to you iPhone. It will make your Phone totally secure by hiding your personal images and videos and also by locking various applications.
