Extension cord makes my charger hot?
Why does the indoor extension chord make my phone charger hot? It's an iPhone 6 charger. Whenever I have it plugged in the extension cord it gets hot to the point it's burning hot to the touch. I've tried changing chargers and extension chords but it still does this.
You have a problem here. The charger for an iphone or any electronic device should work so efficiently that there would be no discernible heat build up. Sometimes the battery itself may get hot on charging, that is because a partially charged battery has considerable internal resistance so passing a high current through it generates heat. That would be normal. But the external charger using switch mode conversion should never get warm. The only time an extension cord should get warm is when you have plugged a hot device into it and heat from the device is conducted by the copper wiring. This is why you never plug a room heater into a normal extension cord.
Hi it is not just the extension cord it is the Phone charger that is the issue here as it is a switch mode power supply.
There's no reason that would happen, an extension cord is just wire, it doesn't do anything to the voltage. The one thing I can think of is that when you have the charger plugged into the extension maybe it is in a different orientation which is allowing heat to build up inside it, but even so, as lare said, it should never get so hot.
- Will this charger cord affect my iPhone? I have an iPhone 5 and I bought a charger cord from Rue 21 because it was cheap. When I plug it in, it gives me a warning that it may not be recognized by the device. Does that mean anything, will it harm my phone at all? I just got a new iPhone because my other one randomly broke, but it wasn't from the cord because I stopped using it a couple months before.
- Will mini microphone for an iphone work with an aux extension? I have recently bought a mini microphone from my iphone. The mic obviously goes in as through the headphone jack. will a female and male extension aux cord work if i connect it to the mic? i want to place the mic on a pole and extend it as if i were to do a movie. But will an aux cord work with it?
- Why does my iphone 5 charger cord only work at random times? I bought a $30 10 ft cord from target like 2 weeks ago (i didn't think it would be as bad since it was expensive) and now it has a really weird problem. Sometimes when i plug it into my phone it would work and sometimes it doesn't (it mostly doesn't). I have no idea what the problem is. It isn't the same problem as when i have to bend the cord, its just taking out/putting in the cord.
- What to get for Wi-Fi extension? So I heard about Wi-Fi range extenders but unfortunately I read that it's slows the Internet speed, so I bought a powerline instead. I found out when I setup the powerline that the connection goes only to the device the Ethernet is connected to. Does anyone know a power line that even when you connect the adapter to your computer, I could receive Wi-Fi to different devices wirelessly like an iPhone
