How long should I keep my iPhone 5s in rice after water damage?

I dropped my iPhone 5s in the toilet yesterday. It was only completely submerged for maybe 1 second. I immediately turned it off and put it in rice. How long should I keep it in the rice before using it?

Usually 24 to 48hrs keep in mind rice isn't 100% effective hope your phone isn't to damaged

No less than 72 hours before turning the phone on, that mean not turning it on to check it for 72 hours. No trying to charge it either. And on any device where you could not take the battery out of the phone, I would not use rice, but rather buy a few bags of silica gel crystals, at the hardware store. This will do a MUCH better job than rice on an enclosed electronic device like an iPhone.

If you can't resist trying to turn the phone on, I would pop for the $50 bucks or so to take it to a cell phone repair shop and have them do a water damage save on the phone, where they take the phone apart to make 100% certain that it is dry and not starting to corrode (this happens when there are bleach blocks in a toilet, won't matter if it's dry, if the bleach starts tarnishing the metal inside the phone). Same thing for homes that use water softener (which is SALT), the two things you COULD find in toilet water in a home. Salt and bleach, both of which are bad news for electronics.

  • I put my iPhone in rice after water damage but it's still overheating? My iPhone 4 was only submerged in the water for a matter of seconds, but I dried it up as much as I could and then took it home and put it in a bag of dry rice for 3 days. I then turned it on and put it on charge, but it'll only charge up to 11% before overheating. If I put the phone back in the bag of rice for another couple of days do you think this issue will be solved?

  • How long should i put my iPhone in rice after water Damage? I had my phone in my pocket and without noticing i jumped in my pool with my buddies, I stayed in there for about 1:30 minutes and I got out of the pool immediately and tried to turn it off but my iphone didn't respond so I took the SIM out and dried it and placed it on a bag of rice with silica gel packs. How long should i keep it there? Or should I call a repair company?
  • How long should I leave my iphone in rice for? (water damage)? So I dropped my phone in water today, it was only in there for about 5 or ten seconds before I took it out. The screen started flickering and turned off. About an hour and a half later when I got home I put it in rice. How long should I leave it there for?
