I'm going on vacation to England, will my iPhone work there?

I'm an American, and I'm curious to see if it will work so I can call my family, it is a 4S on a Sprint contract.

Yes, it will work, but expect to pay about $1/minute to call anywhere.

If Sprint will unlock it, you can get a cheap SIM in England. Orange (one of the carriers) has some really good prices for international calls.

Your phone will work. However, you need to call Sprint customer service and sign up for international roaming. Also ask about the per minute cost as it will be expensive.

To call your family in the USA you are much better off in terms of cost using Skype or Magic Jack.

You can probably download the Skype app to your phone and use it + Wi-Fi to call home. Go to the Sprint store and get assistance so you know how to connect to Wi-Fi on your phone and use Skype. To call the USA.

The first answer is correct and you may be able to have your phone unlocked so you can use a UK SIM card. However, that will still cost far more than Skype or Magic Jack.

Of course it will work if you enable international roaming with your service provider back home. Be aware that international calls from UK will be expensive, as will data roaming charges. You probably have lots of apps running in the background so better to turn of data roaming if you want to save $$$ and use free Wi-Fi instead.
