Iphone 5 Airplane mode/Wi-Fi?

I'm going to be going on holiday for 2 weeks in Florida, I was just wonder if I can use the Airplane mode on my Iphone 5 then turn on Wi-Fi… I'm from Scotland. Will I be charged at all? I really just want to use my phone as an Ipod/Camera. The hotel says it's got free Wi-Fi, how will I go around using this service without being charged. I don't want to be receiving any calls or texts while I'm away.

Yeah thats what I would do, if airplane mode is on and Wi-Fi on then that means there's no phone calling or texting, so your iphone basically becomes an ipod touch.
Many places in the US Will have free Wi-Fi, places like Starbucks, Panera Bread, McDonalds, almost every coffee shop, etc… Are all well known to have free Wi-Fi. (Some hotels and airports also have it, other hotels and airports charge for it). Many bars and restaurants here also offer free Wi-Fi.

Also, I think you can actually still use imessage free also even in airplane mode.

  • Will sleeping with my iPhone 5 in airplane mode harm me? I just got a brand new iPhone 5 3 days ago. Before I used to sleep with my Nokia x6 under my pillow in offline mode. Is airplane mode the same and will it damage me or harm me in any way even if its in airplane mode and under my pillow. I usually sleep with my phone under my pillow because I use it as an alarm and because I like to listen to soothing music before I sleep.
