Iphone GPS without using data?
Hi. I have an Iphone 4S, but I do not have a data plan in it. I constantly cross the border and, often times than not, find the need to use a GPS. I find myself getting lost to unfamiliar territories sometimes and my old car does not support my Garmin GPS anymore. I need a GPS that actually works and having a data plan in my phone is simply not an option and I can't always rely on Wi-Fi when I get lost. Is there any app (free or not) that I can download to my Iphone that works just as well as Tomtom or Garmin (like a real GPS) without having to use Wi-Fi or data?
ALL MOBILE PHONES use data plans to connect to the GPS - unfortunately there's no exception even if you use a iPhone. What you are speaking of, or what you want is a straight GPS - this is the only thing that will apply to your situation. There isn't any free app out there that won't use the mobile triangulation feature to access the GPS.
Why not go buy another Garmin, TomTom, Newelectronx Navigator GPS, or Magellan GPS? Those will do what you want - with free GPS signal for times when you need it, so you won't get lost anymore.
- Will 0.86 gb of data be enough to use iPhone gps? I'm an on call nanny, and only have 6 days left of my plan. However, I just got a few jobs. I only have 0.86gb of data left. And I will probably need my gps for a total time of like 1 hour between all the jobs. I have an iPhone 6, and I use standard view.
- What GPS tracking iphone apps (cycling and running) can be used without a 3G signal? I have been using both endomondo and mapmyride for my running and cycling. When I came to track my mountain biking neither of the apps would start a workout because I was out in the sticks with no network connection. I wasn't expecting any live maps, but was expecting either one of the above to be able to track my coordinates by GPS, to be uploaded later. Shame really because I like the apps. Do they actually works without a network signal and I'm missing something?
- Vehicle Protection: GPS tracking without breaking the bank? I plan to purchase a new vehicle in the next month and was considering ways to protect it. I was curious if there's a smart, simple and cost effective way to do so. I'm thinking of something similar to Find my iPhone which grants the ability to locate the device on a map. I live in a questionable area and want some piece of mind knowing that if my car where stolen that I could locate it. Let me know what you do to protect your car and what systems you have in place.
- Using iPhone 4 as gps on road trip? I'm driving from MN to FL, and plan on using my iPhone 4 as a gps (using the google maps app). The trip is long, over 24 hours, and I'm wondering if the phone could overheat? Also, would roaming charges incur? I have AT&T as a carrier.
