Is it safe to provide IMEI to carrier for unlocking iphone?
Hey guys i borrowed iphone from an unknown dealer online and i don't have any information about them. Now i want to unlock my iphone to use it on any carrier.
Is it safe to provide them my imei? I'm using gevey till date and worried that they will stop this trick i tell them my imei,
Also if they agree to unlock, should i pay them?
If you are an AT&T customer, AT&T will unlock it for you as long as it is not under a contract. If you are not an AT&T customer, find a friend that is and have them call AT&T and tell them it is there phone that they bought and they will unlock it for them. It is a simple process. All they will do is give you a code that you will enter when you put the other carriers sim card in the phone when it prompts you.AT&T will allow its customers to unlock up to 5 phones per year.

- What does IMEI mean when unlocking an iPhone? So I need a new iPhone and am currently on sprint I'm still under contract until June. This guy is selling me an IMEI unlocked iPhone 4S for $200. Can I use the phone with sprint? And after my contract ends can I switch carriers to Metropcs he claims that because the phone is unlocked it is permanently unlocked and free to use with every carrier. Is this true? Am I missing any piece of information?

By calling 611(the AT&T wireless customer portal), it indicated to me that it's IMEI blocked. I'm using a GoPhone SIM card and was wondering if I could just use T-Mobile instead to use the phone. Edit: I was using an iphone 3G for about a year and then moved my card over to the 4s.
