On an iPhone, how do I play audio while my phone is locked?

A lot of websites list these as the "simple" instructions to follow when you want a youtube video to play audio while your phone is locked:

"1. Open youtube, watch video

2. Lock it while the video is playing

3. On lock screen, double-tap home

4. Click play on controls "

I can follow all these steps, but for some reason, the audio doesn't play. Time moves forward so I know that it's not paused. And the regular video plays sound so I know that there's nothing wrong with its ability to play noise.

If you have iPhone, get one of these two apps, the audio should play in the background even if the phone is locked:

1. Music Video for Youtube - (Free)

2. ITube - ($1.99, extra cost for ad-free edition)

For all these apps, all you have to do is search up the video on Youtube. It should be automatically cached or viewable in history (iTube only). Otherwise, just download the video into your phone and you can watch it while your phone is offline. Have fun. :3

  • Safari won't allow me to play youtube video in background or when phone is locked? I used to be able to. When I try playing the video after going to home screen (I have an iphone) and press play, it just plays music from apple music. Is there any way I can play youtube videos in background or when phone js locked? I would appreciate it. I can't find anything online where someone has the same problem:/
  • My Iphone 4s only plays audio when I try to play videos? I have downloaded many different video players through cydia including VLC and all i get is audio. I also converted the files to almost every file type and got the same. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING! I'm so frustrated that I left android to try out an iphone and this is what I get. That day, I have no way to record it on my iphone well… I was gonna use Tapin Radio to record it but is there an app to record it from your iphone thanks?
