My iPhone only lets me put 4 icons on the dock, and 4 is just not enough, I would like to add 5 or 6 icons to my dock. My friend has 6 icons on his dock and he won't tell me how he did it. How do I add more icons to my dock?

I updated to IOS 8 and now I have 9,000+ pictures from my computer that is all my moms photos. I don't want my moms photos on my iPhone. I tried to delete them but they won't let me delete them, I tried doing it on iTunes as well and iTunes won't let me either. How do I delete all these photos?
Added (1). I went into my photo app, went to edit and it doesn't give me an option to delete the album. No way in hell am I deleting them one by one.
