So I was wondering is the crystal clear iPhone 5c case safe if I dropped it because I'm very clumsy and don't want a color I want clear and the ones apple made is not safe I asked at the apple staore

I just activated my iphone 5 today. I can call people, receive calls, text people, and receive imessages. But I CAN't get regular texts from people. I tried everything except calling verizon. What do I do?
I'm pretty sure it is if it's unlocked but I don't really know how to go about buying it. I checked around online and many places seem distrusting and the apple store seems expensive. I need a phone that can carry a gsm supported SIM card to connect it to my plan and right now I'm looking at $450 and that doesn't look right
I recently damaged my Iphone to the point where it no longer turns on and I'm going to have to get a replacement. Once I get a new iphone will any texts and imessages I received while my phone was unable to turn on be saved onto the new phone?
Alright so I was just sitting down letting my phone charge and I look down and the screens all messed up? I can still hear the noises coming from it when I get notifications, I can slide the screen and hear the tapping noises and hold the button on the top to show the power off button and the screen turns red, so I don't really know what's going on, i'm planning to just let my phone die and try to turn it back on and see if that does anything. It was working fine yesterday and this morning so i'm not sure what could have caused it. Its an iphone 4 btw Please Help!
Added (1). If I do decide to upgrade, the phone hasn't been backed up in a while so if I take the sim card out and move it to another phone will all the recent photos and everything not be on the new phone I moved the sim card to?

Bought an Iphone 5 from a guy on craigslist. I asked him if it was icloud locked and also for the imei #. He told me it wasn't icloud locked and he couldn't give me the imei # because his charging cable took a **** and the phone was dead so he couldn't power it on to get it. I bought the phone anyway and turns out it is icloud locked. I have emailed the owner dozens of times and no response. Seems like i fell for a scam. Stupid me. Anyways my question is if i replaced the logic board would that in a sense give me a brand new phone and icloud lock would be gone? If its not the logic board, what would have to be replaced so i can fix this problem.
If you do not have a iPhone, iPod, or iPad do not answer this question. I use iPhone emojis all the time. I think they make texting better and are fun to use. I use them in pretty much every text message, unless I'm texting someone who doesn't have a iPhone, iPod, or iPad.
