Problem receiving text messages?

I used to have an iphone and recently got a galaxy s5. When people who have Iphones text me it send as an imessage and I do not review it.

My friends are telling me they are sending group messages but I'm only getting some from certain people, I don't understand why. I'm using Version 7.1.1? I'm usually connected to Wi-Fi wherever I go (work, school, at the house), may that be the problem? I send through the regular Messages app

I dropped my iphone 5 and cracked the screen. Then somebody spilt a bit of drink on it and now part of the screen won't work. I can't use the letters I anddm because the screen won't work in that spot.

What do I need to get fixed to fix both of these issues?
If i get the screen replaced will it fix where the screen doesn't work?
Roughly how much will this cost in Australia to get fixed?

What should i buy? Iphone 4s or ipod 5th gen? Fyi, i have a Wi-Fi in my house?
