I was just using it normally when the screen turned black and turned off out of no where. Why does my imported videos go to the picture section on Windows 8?

I Uploaded some Videos on my Desktop, whenever i connect my Iphone 4s to the Computer, it takes me to the Pictures section, and my videos end up in the Pictures section, which is a problem because my video editor thinks that I'm trying to upload a picture not a video.
