Can police trace a mobile number?

I put an advert on Gumtree earlier today to sell my new iPhone 5 as I needed the money and decided to keep my old phone.

A boy responded to the ad and text and called me from 2 different numbers.

He came tonight and robbed the phone out of my house, along with my handbag while my 2 year old daughter was in the room.

I'm really shaken up and angry and have no insurance.

Can police trace the 2 numbers he called and text me off? One of which is still ringing and goes to answer phone.

Can they also trace the iPhone 5 from the IMEI number?

They have also taken fingerprints.

Added (1). I have given the police both the numbers he called from. I think he was using his own phone as he should of cake to see the phone last week but I was busy and he was still using the same number. I've got friends who work at the mobile networks see ongoing the phone numbers are registered to an account address. If it kills me I will find him, even if the police don't!

Is there anyway to use my apple id without a credit card?

Looking for a case that will let me see alot of my screen and text easy and not the outer I like it but it's way too clunky and not slick enough plus I know I can't have perfect protection like the outer box and life proof case offer but an intermidiate protection is needed.
