I remember a few years ago for a whole semester, I carried my then new MacBook Pro everywhere on campus. I even carried it to school on days that I didn't have to. And it is heavy! But I wanted to get email and the internet on the go plus my music collection, basically everything I needed was with me and it stuck out like a sore thumb in hindsight. It was around the same time that the iPad, the original iPad was announced and eventually released. I didn't see much use for it because I just got this Macbook pro and thought that it fit my needs. Then when the next semester rolled around, I got an iPhone 4. Then I stopped carrying the laptop around everywhere because I basically had everything I needed on a smartphone. I only carried the laptop around when I had a presentation to give or an essay to write. Now that I'm not in school and have yet to find a job, The laptop stays at home. The last time I had to take my laptop with me was a couple of months ago after Hurricane Sandy, this was because I needed it at the place we were staying for the weeks after because we didm;t have power, heat or hot water. Still, it never leaves the house. I pretty much have a smartphone for on the go. Plus it put strain on my back when I carried the laptop around daily for the whole semester. And lugging around your laptop just to listen to music and watch internet videos on the go is lame, even without a smartphone.
