How to unlock an iphone 5 to run on another network?

I recently got the gift of an iphone 5 for Christmas, it was bought in the UK, but i live in Ireland, Even though we were told that it was unlocked when i went to use it in Ireland with a Meteor sim it comes up "sim invalid", after this i went to a Meteor shop only to find out that the phone was actually locked to an English network and that there was nothing they could do.
Is there anyway to unlock the iPhone 5 to work on any network? Please, any help would be much appreciated!

What will happen if I update my itunes into itunes 11.0.1?

I'm trying to update my iphone3gs to ios 6 but everytime I click update, it says it requires itunes 11.0.1. Should I click download? Coz I got traumatize when my friend clicked something on her itunes and now her iphone is not working anymore. I'm only new in using apple gadgets.

My iphone won't detect Wi-Fi anymore?

All of a sudden my iphone won't pick up Wi-Fi! I dropped it, and it seems that around that time it stopped working, is that the answer? I've tried to reset network settings, turning on airplane mode, etc. But nothing will work. I really don't want to restore it, that is a huge pain. So any suggestions on how I can fix this preferably without restoring?
