Paid for iphone unlock and now getting sim lock status unknown?

Hi, I sent my imei in to get my phone unlocked. After receiving my email saying my phone was unlocked I backed up and restored my phone but I didn't get any kind of notification from itunes that my phone was unlocked. I checked my imei at imei.info and it says my simlock status is "unknown." What does that mean?

It would seem as though that the phone unlock never happened. I would ask for a refund if I were you.

The best way to get a phone unlocked is to request that the carrier unlock the phone. And right now, with the current federal DMCA laws, only carriers can give permission to unlock phones.

You are getting the simlock status as unknown because all the free simlock status check server is down. It may be that your phone is already unlocked, but you won't get the correct status until you use the paid services available for nominal charges of around $1, which extracts info directly from Apple database using Apple gsx account.

It's not necessary that you'll get unlock notification. Sometimes you don't get the notification, still your phone gets unlocked.
Why don't you try a non-supported sim card with your phone and find out yourself if it actually got unlocked instead if asking for refund just because somebody suggests so.

I have unlocked thousands of phone, sometimes I get unlock notification and sometimes I don't. But the phone gets unlocked.

Also, somebody hinted here about some regulatory requirement of unlock getting approved through the carrier only. Let me tell you the fact, US government passed a resolution that you can't get unlocked your phone purchased after 25th or 26th December'2012 (don't remember the exact date) without the carrier's consent if you are a US citizen. This rule does not apply to phones purchased before that or for people who are not subject to US laws irrespective of the purchase date.

I run http://iosbasics.com which provided genuine iPhone factory unlocking services and served many happy customers. I hate people spreading rumors without proper knowledge.

  • Unknown iPhone passcode set by unknown person? A passcode has been set on my iPhone without me knowing, now it is locked up. It says here to connect it to my computer and back up then restore my iPhone. Will this clear everything off my phone or will it be the same as it was before it got locked? I have only attempted unlocking it about 5 times in fear of disabling it. I do not want to back up then restore it if it will clear everything off and transfer it to the computer. Are there any alternatives to unlocking my iPhone?
