Should I completely drain my iPhone 5c's battery before first charge?

I've just got my brand new iPhone 5c today and it came with about 90% battery when I first turned it on. I'm now on it and it has 55% charge. I'm wondering wether I should drain the battery to 0% then fully recharge it to 100%, that's what used to be recommended but I'm not sure if you still have to do it. Will you please let me know what I should do. I will get to sleep in around 2 hours, FYI.

I wouldn't do that. This is a good page of tips for new iphone users: http://www.justtext.com/messageboards/20140527164344.html

Until it gets around 20% or lower if yah not using it anymore. Additionally, for better results, I've heard that its also better once you reach 100% charged, you leave it for like 20 to 30 minutes longer for couple times. I'm still carrying this iphone 4 ha but the battery is in pretty good shape to me.

Charge as you like as modern batteries do not have memories like old phones so charging it when not empty will cause no problems.

I've never heard of that i would let it comletely drain just in case or if you can find an article by apple saying that it dosent have memory then go for it

Yes, you should always run it down to red if circumstances will allow you to, it will get you the best battery life on all electronic device batteries. Batteries tend to get a memory like a hungry child, they start to get hungry again at dinner time if you feed them regularly. (even Lithium Ion's) This is evident by a battery that shows red for 2 hours without the device shutting off within minutes.

No, never let it drain all the way.
That was ONLY nickel cadmium batteries that had a memory and had to be completely discharged.
All other batteries are better if never allowed to fully discharge.
Your phone has lithium batteries, and can explode if fully discharged and quickly recharged.

No - it will do nothing for it

Simple answer - never drain any rechargeable battery (except NiCad) to zero, otherwise you will shorten its overall lifespan. Since this question was asked in the Cars & Transportation section, consider that Toyota program the Prius to maintain those very expensive car batteries between 50% and 80% charge for maximum battery life. This would be best for your phone battery too: charge it when the battery drops to around 50% and disconnect the charger once it's back above 80%.

Hi so put on charge for 14 hours then use it. It is not going to get to full charge until you have had it about a week.

  • What if I didn't charge my iPhone 5 before using when I first got it? So I just got my first iPhone ever and didn't know that you're supposed to charge it for 8h first before beginning to use it. I charged it (even though it looks fully charged) as soon as I got home but as it was charging I sent out a few smses. Anyway so I never took it off the charger but Mum says that cos I already started to use it, it will never work at its optimum anymore. Is that true or is it still safe since I used it while it was still charging?
  • What should I do to solve battery drain issues on my iPhone 6? Should I calibrate my iPhone 6 battery or reboot to solve issues with battery drain? Certain apps like Snapchat really drain my battery and if my settings say that Snapchat takes 62% of my battery usage in background activity, does that I mean I should delete the app?
  • Should i let my iPhone die completely before I charge it? Okay so I just got an iPhone 4 and I let it go dead before I charged it. Then let it charge completely before using it. Do I have to do that every time or can I plug it in whenever I want and charge it.
  • Should i let my Iphone battery drain to 0%? My i phone battery last so much. If i charge at morning and check it at night the battery life is still (90-79%) but is it also ok to let my iphone batter drain till o% some of my friend told me its good to do that.
