Travelling to america with my iphone i still want to be able to use 3g?
Hi
i'm going on holiday for 6 weeks to america soon a don't want to loose contact with my girlfriend
so 3g would be quite important to me also i use my phone as sat nav which uses 3g
does anybody know and cheap ways of doing it?
e.g.using a american sim or something like that any networks?
It's expensive to use a foreign based operator in a different country. For six weeks I would recommend getting a US sim card as you will pay their rates. If your flying in, then there will be a phone shop in the airport terminal.
Otherwise you can check out roaming sims here: http://www.statravel.co.uk/international-sim-cards.htm
You can buy pre-paid SIM cards everywhere. This is an example:

Do call customer service for your cellular provider and verify your phone is unlocked, unless you are already certain it is.
Depending what iPhone you have it's not great to change sims, so I would avoid getting an American sim, however you could buy a cheap phone with 3G and get an American sim put in it.
I suggest you ring your network provider, my girlfriend lived in America last year so I was often going between the two with my iPhone, and Vodafone did me a package which allowed for cheaper calls back to the Uk and to specific numbers. Best and cheapest thing to do I think.
As for 3G, you will still get the coverage, it's just a case of working out a cheap way of doing it, in order to keep your phone and not get another phone with another sim, just call your provider and they can usually help. Plenty of people want the same thing as you, so there's usually a way around it.
- Will i still be able to use my iphone in another country without jailbreaking? I bought my iphone4 in japan since i was living there for sometime. But I've moved to a different country now. And I want to use the network provided.i'm still using ios4 and i feel like my iphone has been a lot more slower than it used to. Some tell me that in order to use it in a different country i need to jailbreak it but i want to update it to ios5. Will i still be able to use it if I update it to ios5?
- Will I still be able to use my iphone 5? I bought an iPhone 5 2 days ago. The phone was brand new and never been used. It's on a contract and instead of paying the contract (which isn't my contract its the guy who sold me it) i want to put my own nano sim in it. Will I be able to do this? It is on O2 network and I'm on tmobile so if I get it unlocked will i be able to put my own sim in it without O2 blocking the phone?
- Will an iPhone with NO CARRIER still be able to use iMessage? I had an iPhone 4S, but canceled the plan on it completely. I was with Bell. When I got my iPhone 6S I switched to Koodo, and therefore have a new phone #. For some reason I assumed my old phone would still work for iMessage, and am only now wondering if it won't. Where the carrier is usually displayed, my 4S says "No Service" but is connected to Wi-Fi. Can an iPhone with no carrier still send and receive iMessages from the old phone number?
- Unlocked iPhone 4/4s still able to use with AT&T? My uncle has an old iPhone 4/4s (I don't remember which one) and it's an unlocked phone. Let's say he gives it to me and I have AT&T. Though it's unlocked, can I still use it with AT&T and update the phone's iOS regularly? Because I know that if you have an unlocked phone for let's say, T-Mobile, you can't update because that'll mess up your jailbreaking stuff.
