Why are Apple products so expensive? - 1
An example:
I got a laptop for $325 with 2x the RAM, a better processor, and everything else than a Macbook Pro being sold directly from Apple that costs $815. Both were released in the same year.
So, I got something better than that Macbook pro for only 40 percent of the price.
I'm also getting a brand new smartphone that has similar specifications as the Iphone 6 for only 20 percent of the price.
What's going on here with these insane prices?
Added (1). If anyone wanted to know, this laptop in question is an HP Elitebook 8470p.
To some extent the name, but mainly the parts quality.
The macbooks I've worked on have had a solid metal casing and the build quality is superb.
A lot of normal laptops have very flimsy housings and seem to use the motherboard as structural reinforcement…
Macbooks are by no means the most expensive laptops:
The high-end Sony Vaio machines (with carbon-fibre cases) were 2 - 3 times as much as Macbooks.
My own machines - Panasonic Toughbooks - would have been $4000+ each if bought new (rather than ex-lease for "only" $2300 for the newer one).
Again, they are rather better built than "normal" laptops:
Edit - That "$325" HP Elitebook 8470p was $1499 when it first came out.
Comparing the price of an obsolete model to a new/recent one is hardly a fair comparison of value.

Because they are polished turds.
If the guy in the black turtle neck says its a good product and sells it for an astronomical price, then it has to be better, right?
I just read the response about "better parts". And while it is true that an aluminum case does cost more than a plastic one, it still does not explain the extraordinary prices they charge. Typically the major cost in building a computer are the motherboard and CPU, and of course the operating system.
So what's the difference between your laptop and an Apple? A few dollars in the aluminum and a but load for the software on it. Apple seems to think their user friendly operating system is worth a lot of money. They must be right because a lot of people fall for the hype and spend the extra money.
Because the stock value is more important than the product, and people believe it's better because it costs more.
WHO GIVES A FLYING ****! Just go buy what you want, and stop moaning about the brands you can't afford. Buy a Chevy and shut the **** up about the BMWs.
- Why the iphone 5s is more expensive on ebay than in the apple store? I'm not complaining or anything just want to understand why would anyone buy it on ebay or what could be the reason why it is more expensive on ebay. Usually it is the other way around and on ebay you can get better deal but seems like when it comes to iphone 5s it is not the case. But why?
- Why are apple products so overpriced? I'm never paying $300+ for an iPhone This is one of the many reasons capitalism is going to fail
- Why are apple products so expensive? It's all repetitive. There's no 'new innovative technology'. Apple just adds stuff they purposely did not add to the previous model just to get more sales. Just like the iPhone 4s. They could have easily gotten 4g LTE connection, but it does not and that is going to be one of the 'golden features' of the iPhone 5.
- Does apple replace broken apple products with refurbished ones? I just got a new iphone 4s from them today because my lock button jammed over the weekend. when he brought my new iphone over it came in a black box that was sealed and he had to take the sim card out of my old one and put it into my new one? i was wondering if the phone i have now is refurbished?
