Why do iPhones in 2013 still have narrow screens?

I've never owned an iPhone before, I've always had other phones like an android or windows phone but this time I thought I'd try the iPhone for a change so I went to the apple store to have a look at the models. They were tall and narrow and compared to my windows phone the iPhone 5S looked like a toy. I don't like it (the design) which a shame because I went there with an open mind of purchasing an iPhone in the future.

Why doesn't apple have larger screens available, if people prefer the narrow smaller version that's fine but some of us would like a larger screen option, and apple could design two of them like they did with the ipad air and ipad mini.

Btw I do love the ipad and mac book laptops it's just the iPhone design I dislike.

I like it, fits great in the hand and fits much better in pocket.

I don't want a wide screen as it won't fit in a pocket or in a small clutch purse.

Narrow screens for narrow-minded people:-) Just kidding fanboys!
It is supposed to be so people can use them one-handed. The larger Android and Windows screens are more difficult to operate one-handed for most people.

I like the smaller screen. I laugh inside me every time I see someone with a giant "phone" (wich looks more like a tablet to me). Android and Windows has giant phones. If you want a tablet sized phone, go with Android or Windows lol.

I'm positive people buy iPhones due more to following the crown rather than how it feels in the palm of the hand. I have the Nokia 925 and the large vibrant screen was one of the selling points. I'm sure iPhones are great, but since having a larger screen, I would never go back. I used to love smaller screened phones because they fit better in the pocket, but larger screens pay off in other ways.
