Why is my iPhone 5 using so much data?

I just got my iPhone 5 four days ago, and I've already gone over my 200mb data plan. Before I had the iPhone, I had a Blackberry Torch 9800, and I've never gone over my data plan. I use the phone the same amount as I used my Blackberry, and I'm connected to Wi-Fi throughout 90% of the day, and rarely use data. So why am I going through my data so quickly?

Its probably the 4G that the iPhone 5 has. Many video services like netflix, youtube, etc. Will stream higher quality video to a 4G phone, which uses more data.

200mb is such a small data plan, especially if your watching youtube or viewing pictures. That will just go through 200mb so fast. My sister had the iphone 4s with 200mb plan, she had to change in a week to 1gb because she went over in about a day or two. Its not your phone its what your doing. Also double tap the home button and you will see icons, these are the icons that are still open and could be wasting your mb. The last thing i would have to say would be not to refresh a page constantly because that is just wasting mb for no reason. I forget to mention that when my sister was changing her data plan, the lady was explaining to us that 200mb is just for opening and writing email and checking the weather (hardly using the internet) but if your going to be using the internet often (about everyday) then just change your plan now!

Probably a lot of background app work, like synch and phoning home. You should be able to enforce that it goes through Wi-Fi when available from your settings. I have an Android, so I can't give specifics.

If you have a verizon phone, google says you need to do an update:

This is actually an easy questions to answer. BlackBerry devices do data compression on all traffic so it uses less data to do the same thing as most other phones. That's why BB devices rock.

Suddenly last week my I phone 5 (which I have had for 6 months) is using up data, in three days it has used as much as I ever use in a month

I have a 3G network threw alltel with the iPhone 5c and in three days I have already use 850 Mb of my data. How is that even possible. When I had an android I was using less then that in a month. I just don't understand where my data is going so fast

  • Why is my iphone 5 using So much data? - 2 I get 3gb on my plan, I have a Facebook Messenger app, whatsapp, candy crush and instagram (as does my sister) but she rarely goes over her limit, however i'm able to go over my 3gbs in 6-7 days easily. My last bill was £40 over due to data. Any ideas what it could be? How can i see what uses a lot of the data?
  • Why is my iPhone 5 using so much data? - 1 For the last couple of months my data usage has skyrocketed! I have gone from not coming close to my 750 megabytes to having to beg EE to upgrade me to a 1gb package which I'm now on round to going over double! The only thing that has changed since I got my phone was a new 4g sim a few months ago but apart from that I havnt changed any setting.
  • Why is my iPhone 4s using so much data? I'm trying to install iOS7 but I don't have enough data and iphone says I'm using 10 GB after I deleted all my apps and photos and I always delete the background apps so what should i do?
  • Why am I suddenly using so much iPhone data? My contract on my iPhone says that I can use 1GB of internet per month. Normally I use hardly any internet at all, and last month I only used 30MB. However suddenly in only half a month I have used way over my 1GB data and am being charged for it. I have not been using my internet any more than usual and have had to turn my Wi-Fi off to ensure that I do not use any more internet. I do not understand why I'm suddenly using so much data. Does anyone have any ideas?
