Why is my macbook not recognising my iPhone?

This is a problem that's only started recently but when i plug my phone into my macbook most times it doesn't do anything. Sometimes it will charge but most times it doesn't and even if it charges it doesn't come up in iTunes.

It charges fine when I plug it into the wall so I'm assuming it's not the cable. My mac's still under warranty if it is that but my phone isn't.

Any suggestions of how to sort it? Oh and my software/itunes is all up to date as i've just checked.

Uplug your power cable from your macbook.

1. USB port is dead
2. Need drivers but I highly doubt it
3. Clean with ends of the port and make sure
4. Dunno, mac's suck so yeah

Just because it charges, doesn't necessarily mean that the cable is good. Charging uses a whole different set of pins on the plug.

First troubleshooting steps would be to try a different cable, try your phone on a different computer, and try a different phone (iPod or iPad, even) on your computer. That should point you to the culprit.

Oh, and warranty hardly matters. You could always bring the MacBook and iPhone down to any Apply store and they'll troubleshoot it for free. Only if they find a hardware problem will the warranty come into play.
