Will an american iphone work in Ireland?

I really want an i-phone 5 and they are only $200 in america! Thats so cheap, in Ireland they are about €700, My dad's friend is going to America and said he could buy one for me, but Will it work I know you can get them jailbroken or something like that.

Anyone know if it will work

Thanks a mil. X

Added (1). Its $200 on the apple us website

You have to unlock it's country code. Then you can use it properly.

It's only $200 in the US if you sign a contract with a carrier for a minimum of 2 years if you cancel the contract you will have to pay the full price of the phone which is about $600 and a cancellation penalty.

They are not cheaper in the US. Even if you did manage to find one you would have to also buy the power cord to charge it as it will be for the US electrical power not yours. So either a converter or a new power plug would be needed.

First, iphone isn't $200.
Second, an iphone/normal phone will work in the full earth.

  • Would an American iPhone 5 work in the UK? I'm going to Florida in a few weeks and was wondering if I bought an unlocked iPhone 5 in an apple store whilst I'm there, would it still work properly if I inserted an O2 sim when I got home? I've been researching a little and on the US Apple website it said the unlocked iPhone 5 is available to any GSM carrier. So will O2 work?
  • Will my verizon iphone 4s work in Ireland? I have a Verizon iPhone 4s, model A1387, which means it's CDMA, not GSM. I got it unlocked by Verizon, because I was hoping that in Ireland I could buy a local SIM card for it. However, now I'm hearing conflicting info that even though it's unlocked, Ireland's SIM cards won't work with it because it's not GSM based, like all of Europe. Please help! Will I be able to get a sim card or not?
  • Will my Australia vodafone iphone 5 work in Ireland? I have an iphone 5 thats with vodafone, and i was wondering, if i unlock the phone from telstra when i go over to ireland, will i just be able to buy a prepaid sim card there and put it in my phone and use it? And if i unlock my phone, will it have any bad affects? Will i still be able to use my plan and the sim card i originally got with it?
