Will my Australia vodafone iphone 5 work in Ireland?

I have an iphone 5 thats with vodafone, and i was wondering, if i unlock the phone from telstra when i go over to ireland, will i just be able to buy a prepaid sim card there and put it in my phone and use it? And if i unlock my phone, will it have any bad affects? Will i still be able to use my plan and the sim card i originally got with it?

After unlocking will be able to use the phone with any sim, including the prepaid sim cards from Ireland.   • Will my verizon iphone 4s work in Ireland? I have a Verizon iPhone 4s, model A1387, which means it's CDMA, not GSM. I got it unlocked by Verizon, because I was hoping that in Ireland I could buy a local SIM card for it.
