Will my iPhone 5 work in a different country?
It's an iPhone 5, and I live in NZ. We're going on a trip to America for a couple of weeks, and I don't know if my phone will work. I don't care if I can't text or make phone calls, or about roaming or whatever with Vodafone. I just want to make sure I can use Wi-Fi like usual. Obviously the camera and iPod parts will work? But what about Internet? Cheers.
Probably YES…
Yes as long as you roam
I object the previous answer. It will probably NOT work. Most iPhone's are "locked" to a specific phone carrier, meaning it will not accept sim cards that are not of that carrier.
For example I live in Australia and use Optus. If I try to use another sim card such as Telstra it will not work because my phone only accepts Optus sim cards, thus it is "locked".
If you wish to use your iPhone overseas you will need to unlock it. Unfortunately there's no free way to do this and you will have to pay Apple, your carrier, or someone else to unlock it for you.
Unlocking a iPhone is totally legal if you do it the right way by paying the carrier to unlock it for you.
By the way, Wi-Fi will work like normal, no matter where you go! Have a great trip and good luck!
As long as its not locked under your phone contract then it should work fine. Imessage will also work free even internationally.
Yes that will work. Put the phone in Airplane Mode & turn back on the Wi-Fi & you'd be fine with what you want. Turn it back off when you go back home.
- When in a contract, can I get a different SIM while in another country? I'm going to china in 15 days and I want an IPhone so I can take pictures and have data while I'm there. I'm staying for an entire month. Getting this IPhone (with either sprint or T-mobile) with put me in a 2 year contract. Will I be able to use my phone while I'm there with the new SIM card I'm buying in China. I heard that my phone will be locked while I'm out of the country or something.
- Using Viber on iPhone with Wi-Fi in different country? Hi so I'm traveling next week and I was wondering if it will be free to use Viber from my iPhone using Wi-Fi. If I'm connected to Wi-Fi will I be charged/ will it work in a different country. I'm going to America if that matters.
- Using Iphone in different country? So i going away to jamaica. Could i use my iphone there. Or will they charge me. Like i'm staying at a hotel with Wi-Fi and such. Can i use my phone without cellular(callin people) and just use it for internet and Wi-Fi. How will this affect my bill
- Is texting or calling from iPhone to iPhone free if you're in a different country? I live in the US And I'm going to Sydney, Australia for 3 weeks in a little while but I'll only be 17 when I go with one of my friends and I wanted to make sure I could communicate with my mom. There aren't many hotels I can find with free Wi-Fi or even Wi-Fi in general. The hotel we're probably going to stay in only offers wired. Both my mom and I have iPhone's so if we text or call on the cell phone data (I have Verizon) will my phone bill price be crazy high?
