IMessage in airplane mode with Wi-Fi on?

I have an iPhone 4s, I'm in Turkey (normally in America) I have airplane mode on so data doesn't work but I have Wi-Fi connection. I'm able to use internet and social media, just when I send an imessge it says you have to turn off airplane mode or be connected to Wi-Fi to send and receive iMessages. I'm connected to Wi-Fi and I can go on the internet and everything.
My sister has an iphone and she can send iMessages on the Wi-Fi just fine.

What do I need to do?

Airplane mode deactivates All wireless communications; Cell network, cell data, wi-fi, Bluetooth, etc. It's so no wireless communications interfere with airplane avionics. Like what jon_mac_usa_007 said, you need to turn airplane mode off, but you can also deactivate your phone's data via your settings. Look for cellular data, data, or something like that (I'm not an iPhone user but my family does).

Airplane mode turns OFF Wi-Fi, so if you desire Wi-Fi then keep airplane mode off, you can turn off your data if that is what you want.

Check to make sure Wi-Fi is on. That's pretty much the only suggestion I could make. Sort of sounds like you are making the point you have a Wi-Fi connection available but that doesn't mean the phone automatically connects to it (assuming it was never used on that connection before)

  • IPhone Problem: Airplane mode and text messaging? I switch my iPhone to airplane mode at night (so people can't wake me with late night calls etc) and when I go into places where there's no cell coverage (to save battery but still let me use camera and music). BUT When I switch it back off airplane mode it takes a Really LONG TIME to reconnect to sms service. Phone calls and internet work fine straight away, but texts take a really long time to sort themselves out. Very frustrating, does anyone else have this problem?
