Ok, I I will probably have a 3.2 by the end of junior year unweighted. I have taken honors both freshman and sophomore years. Right now i'm a junior and I have 3 IB classes on a 6.0 scale. By the end of this year my weighted GPA should be sky high, but my unweighted will probably only go up to a 3.2. My estimated ACT is a 28 if i remember correctly. The EC that I have been in were Drum and Bugle, Photography, Ecology. I seriously plan on joining more this year like Art club and maybe photography.
My sister is in UIUC so I've been there a few times to visit her and stuff. I love it more and more each time I go. She tells me not to worry and to get good grades and I'll get in. She says that since i've challenged myself i should do fine.
But it baffles me that the unweighted gpa is more important than the weighted. What if someone is not even challenging themselves and gets straight A's?
By the way my grades now are all A's and 2 B's (better than when i was taking honors). Will UIUC take under consideration that I improved a lot?
IB requires 90 hours of service learning by senior year so I should be good with that right? I plan on getting like 50 by the end of this summer.
My sister also said that since we're hispanic, I get more of a chance o get in because of diversity. Don't know if thats true?
Please just give me advice. And don't put me down too much. Thanks a lot everyone!
(sorry for the typos i'm using an iphone)
