Will they find out if i sold it?

I didn't download any apps or anything, or record any videos or take pictures. I didn't do anything, it just all of a sudden happened today. How can I fix it? I have a 16gb iPhone 5
I have an iPhone 4S and do not have an upgrade until the beginning of March 2014 however the last few months my phone has slowly been breaking. It shuts off at random times and it doesn't hold a charge at all. I have insurance and they'll replace the phone, but the technology is so outdated I don't want another 4s. Is there anyhing I can say to Verizon that can convince them to give me an early upgrade if I go to the Verizon store with the service center?
I really want to use Skype to video chat on my iPhone 4S but my mic is seriously messed up and doesn't really work properly so I need to use text chat whilst video calling but I don't know how to on the iPhone. Any help is much appreciated!

My phone was running iOS 6.1.3 with a tethered jailbreak, i had a nightmare to get it of and get iOS 7, but eventually i managed and 2 days later my iPhone turned off unexpectedly and would not turn back on, it got stuck in a boot loop. But it is not jailbroken. So i tried to fix it and no i'm stuck in recovery mode, how do i get my phone back to normal?
I got a text from AT&T yesterday congratulating me on how I'm able to upgrade to the new iPhone. They also sent me a text saying I get a free iPhone 5C. Is it possible that I can get a 5S for free instead of the 5C or?
