So I had an odd thing happen tonight. A woman came to my door asking to use my phone because she was trying to call her cell phone since she tracked it down to my apartment building using the Find My iPhone app.
I didn't open the door all the way, and I just got my home phone and let her use it. She called her phone, but didn't hear anything and then gave my phone back to me. She apologized for disturbing me.
I went into the kitchen to make my dinner, and my husband was in the living room. He said he could hear her going from apartment to apartment asking for the same thing, and only one other person opened the door but refused to let her use their phone. She tried that same person a few minutes later and they did not open the door for her again.
I'm now worried that she might have been gathering phone numbers to call in order for either her or a group of individuals to break into apartments when people aren't home by calling them.
I live on the second floor of an apartment building where you have to get buzzed in. I live in the middle of a busy downtown area in behind a news station. There's only one door into my place, but I'm just scared I foolishly let someone use my home phone to rob me later.
Does anyone think I should be worried about this? Is there anything I can do to if this may be the case?
Thanks!
Added (1). Should I report it to the police or my apartment management?
Also, this happened about four hours ago, so is it too late to do anything about it now?
Added (2). I called the cops and they are going to have an extra patrol set up for my apartment, and they told me to talk to my apartment managers in the morning.
Hopefully this will help so I can finally go to sleep!
