Should I take my Iphone 4S abroad?

Hi I'm going on a school trip to the Ardeche in France for 6 days, the only problem is that we have to sit through a 20+ hour coach journey to get there, I'm debating on whether to take my iPhone 4s with me because it is the only thing that would keep me entertained throughout the journey.

Of course, I would take it. You can still use imessage and facetime free over Wi-Fi even if international.

  • Which camera should I bring? Studying abroad in London/Travelling Europe? I have these options: a DSLR Nikon camera, a Sony videocamera (small), or should I buy a digital camera? In addition, i'm bringing my iPhone 5s, which has pretty good quality as well. I'm just afraid I'll lose my DSLR, should I buy a digital camera or take the small videocamera? Suggestions? I will be studying for a semester in London and traveling to a few countries in Europe as well.
  • What to turn off on your iPhone when going abroad? I'm going away today and i need to to know what to turn off so I'm not going to charged AT ALL. Every last bit please! And also if i connect to a free Wi-Fi abroad will it charge me? And what does it mean by in notifications where it says sort apps "manually" or "by time"?
  • What should I turn off/on on my iPhone when travelling abroad? I'm going to Germany for a few days and I'm taking my O2 Pay and Go iPhone5 but what settings should I turn on or off so I don't get charged a stupid amount or use all my top up money? I'm guessing data roaming should be turned off for a start. I do want to post pictures while I'm there though too, should I only do this when I can find a Wi-Fi signal to connect to?
  • What settings do I change on my iPhone 4S to stop data when abroad? I want to receive calls and texts but no internet at all. I don't want a massive bill for data when I return home!
