Why are teenagers so obsessed with depression and anxiety.etc?

I'm a teen myself but I've noticed that a lot of them think depression is cool and having so friends and being "leik so awwwkward! 11!" is great.

As soon as they feel a little bit sad (And I MEAN a little bit) sad or the mother refuses to buy them £100 iPhones they're like "omgzz so depressed", when there's teens who are actually depressed out there who don't say anything about it, but there's a few other teens who just took some unreliable online test who aren't depressed at all or just looked a disorder up and think that just because they have one of two symptoms it means that they have it… I'm not saying that people who have online tests are definitely not depressed, it's best to check with the doctor in case you've diagnosed yourself incorrectly. Self-diagnosing also offends those who have actually been diagnosed. But it really sucks when people are walking around with fresh scars out.

I don' know maybe they want attention. For me I wouldn't post or say anything.people would just think you're crazy anyway

The hormonal imbalance in the young adolescent years is such that many teens do become depressed while going through their adolescent years. Most teenager thrive to be independent, accepted and understood on many occasions this does not happen and it is a sad fact of life that doctors love to throw antidepressants into the mix and Label kids with random abbreviations, ADHD, ADD, CD etc and parents love it because even though a lot of these issues could be solved with actual parenting they have an excuse to have a unruly child, they can blame something else not the fact they had a lack of discipline.

Self harm has become quite a new thing, it can be a cry for help, a cry for attention or a deep seated issue that is now ignored because there are so many kiddies running for the razors just because mummy and daddy won't buy them a puppy or a new Iphone that those who really have issues are ignored. Lets be honest a doctor will spend at best 20Min's with a patient and then diagnose them they have to take what they are told at face value. Its a sad fact of life that these youngsters are setting themselves up for life struggling to come off the anti depressants and also giving them an excuse. They will then believe that they failed at something because they are depressed or because they have some syndrome not because they did not work hard and try hard to obtain what they wanted.

I'm a 16 year old with clinical depression and OCD, Some people genuinely are depressed while others are simply attention seeking, however most teenagers don't know what depression is…
Depression IS NOT a feeling of sadness or anger (most teenagers thing this) it is a chemical imbalance n the brain OR an affect or previous trauma. Most people trick themselves in to thinking they're depressed because it is hard to be a teenager today. However if they are actually depressed i feel sorry for them, it's horrible and controls most of your life.

I know what you mean. That's the exact reason why I want to be a psychiatrist for people over 18.
Teenagers confuse their normal hormones for something much worse. They usually don't express how they feel with each other so they think they are the only ones that feel that way.

Mental ilness is on the rise, and its affected my generation more than yours, just get over yourself.

They idolise sometimes these disorders and think it's fun. I have seen a lot of fashion people (beauty gurus) on youtube who organise their clothes in a certain way and claim they have "OCD." It's quite annoying because I'm a teenager and have depression and anxiety AND psychosis and its not fun! I dislike it when teenagers think it's a choice and make it like a "fashion" to have it. However many do actually have disorders.
