I want to get a iphone 3GS but a friend keeps telling me that the 3 is slow and bad. Is it that bad? He keeps telling me that the iphone 4/4S would be better, and that I should wait for the iphone 5. Should I wait?

I've decided to sell my iPhone 3G because I don't really like the phone. Problem is, I have no clue how much I should sell it for. I was thinking $100 and posting it on Craig's List. I know that may sound cheap, but the Home Button is also not working on it. Other than that it is in mint condition and I'm throwing in an Otter Box as well. The front screen, the glass, has alot of small scratches all over the front and a crack from the bottom corner to the other side, will a screen protected make the scratches less noticeable? I'm not worried about the crack, it's hardly noticeable.
